Eva Bitel was a prominent doctor, Trumps Bridge figure and backgammon player - having served as President of the Australian Backgammon Federation. She passed away Tuesday 17 December, 2019. This tournament is in memory of her.

The Eva Bitel is a 3-stage tournament.

A round robin format will be used for STAGE I where players will play an 11-point match against each other player in their group. The aim is to create eight brackets with the top two players within each group progressing.

Players will be seeded according to their ANZBGF ranking and groups will be filled by evenly distributing players across the groups according to their ratings.

The top two players in each group will progress based on their W/L record in their group. In the case of a tie, the overall PR will be used to determine progression. All matches will be analysed on eXtremeGammon at XG++ level.

In STAGE II there will be four groups of four players. Players will be seeded by the PRs recorded in Stage 1 and the brackets filled according to the Seeded Round Robin Method used in STAGE I.

The 4 winners from STAGE II will be re-seeded based on their overall PR and play a best of 3 match series to progress to the final:

1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3

The final will be a best of 3 match series

Players in the Open division not proceeding to Stage II will enter the double elimination consolation.

The entry fee for the event is $50AUD or $55NZD with 100% return.

A side pool is available - $100AUD or $110NZD. The combined pool goes to the top two players progressing the furthest in the tournament, divided 60/40. If two or more players progress to the same point then the pool will be split evenly.

Prize money will be awarded in both the Open (and Restricted) divisions and Double elimination consolation.
